I think we mostly wanted a name that expressed the fact that we were quitting our jobs. And for the fun play on words from the email you get from the offices.
On voulait surtout exprimer le fait qu'on se détachait de nos boulots respectifs, et on trouvait le jeu de mot marrant.
*What is the most important thing that we have forgotten during on of our trips?

For Matt it was horse trekking in Mongolia.
During a two week trip to Mongolia, we went horse trekking around Lake Khovsgol in the north of the country. The lush, incredibly expansive scenery and near total lack of any other people was amazing. I've also loved horses since I was a very little kid, having started riding when I was about five years old. The horses we rode in Mongolia were wild for 6-9 months of the year, and used only for a few months when the local community would use them for trekking. They were small, but very strong and full of energy. I'm not a small person, and they held me for 6-7 hours a day and happily galloped for ten or fifteen minutes at a time over the steppe. It was an amazing experience.
Pendant un voyage de 2 semaines en Mongolie, nous avons fait un trek à cheval autour du lac Khovsgol au nord du pays. La végétation flamboyante à perte de vue et l'absence totale d'autres êtres humains était incroyable. J'ai toujours aimé les chevaux depuis que je suis petit, j'ai commencé à monter quand j'avais 5 ans. Les chevaux que nous avons monté en Mongolie sont à l'état sauvage entre 6 et 9 mois de l'année, et seulement monté le restant de l'année. Ils sont plutôt petits mais très robustes et énergiques! Je suis plutôt un gros gabarit mais aucun souci pour se balader 6 ou 7 heures par jour, avec quelques belles galopades à travers la steppe. Cela a été une expérience incroyable.
Clo's choice is paragliding in Nepal.
I am a little afraid of heights, but what an experience!! And I flew with the first Nepalese women instructor.
J'ai un peu le vertige mais c'était vraiment magique; et en plus j'ai volé avec la première femme instructeur népalaise.

Matt chooses peppers in Barcelona.
During a recent trip to visit friends in Barcelona, they took us to one of their favorite local tappas restaurants. I'd had tappas a number of times before, but never these incredibly tasty grilled little peppers. Called Pimpientos de Padron, they were blistered on a grill and covered in a drizzle of olive oil and very coarse sea salt. Divine. I think I ate three full plates of them.
Pendant en récent voyage à Barcelone où nous sommes allés rendre visite à des amis, ils nous ont amené dans un de leur restaurant à tapas préféré. J'avais déjà gouté aux tapas par le passé mais cette fois nous avons mangé des petits piments verts. Ca s'appelle Pimpientos de Padron, ils sont grillés et recouverts d'huile d'olive et de sel marin. J'en ai mangé 3 assiettes.
For Clo it is Tom Yum from Phuket, Thailand.
During a long week end in Phuket with friends we went for breakfast in a local little shop, I already loved sea food tom yum soup, but this one sealed the deal: it's my favorite food ever. Spicy and fishy. Loved it!

Matt thinks of the moose in Alaska.
After a fun day of exploring in Anchorage in the middle of winter, we were walking the five blocks from the bus stop to the house where we were couchsurfing. Turning a corner, what do we see about ten meters away? A moose. Not a baby moose, but a big-ass moose snacking on a bush. She didn't even look at us, so after taking a picture or five we very respectfully crossed the street. In case you weren't aware, moose attack people more than bears and wolves combined. In fact, world-wide only hippos are more dangerous. Anyway, as soon as we crossed the street the moose decided she wanted to do the same thing. We backed up (slowly) and crossed back to the other side. Thankfully this time she stayed on the other side and we calmly (on the outside, at least) walked the rest of the way. I've seen moose before but never so close and never in the middle of a city! Crazy stuff.
L'hiver dernier nous sommes allé à Anchorage, en revenant d'une balade en ville nous descendons du bus pour rentrer jusqu'à la maison où nous dormions, et là que voit on à quelques mètres de nous: un élan!! Pas un petit, un énorme élan en train de grignoter un buisson. Il ne nous a meme pas calculé, on a pris quelques photos discrètement, et on a traversé la route. Mais il nous a suivit et a traversé aussi!! On a continué à avancer doucement et il ne s'est pas approché plus. Je n'avais jamais vu un élan de si près et encore moins en ville!! Génial!
Clo recalls not seeing the bear in Grand Tetons National Park.
Walking through Grand Tetons National Park was just stunning. With one detail... everybody told us to be very careful with bears. The guards of the park told us to carry bear spray, we didn't have any, we still went... But for the first hour I was a little worried to cross path with one of those big beasts!! I am very sure that at some point there was one around us, but we didn't see him, just heard noise in the bushes!! Even scarier that actually seeing him!!!
Lors d'un trek dans le parc national de Grand Teton aux USA (d'ailleurs absolument splendide) on nous a beaucoup dit d'être très attentif aux ours qui vivent là, et d'emporter avec nous un spray contre les ours (pour les faire fuir) et autres conseils avisés.... D'un pas peu assuré nous commençons à marcher... et au bout d'une heure on a entendu des bruits au loin derrière les arbres... Autant dire que j'ai bien eut peur!!! Ne pas voir l'ours mais le savoir tout proche était bien plus flippant que de le voir en vrai!!!!

Matt's choice is the Olympic peninsula.
I spent quite a few years growing up in the American northwest, and the region (mainly Washington/northern Oregon) will always hold a very special place in my heart. Even more than that, though, is the Pacific coast surrounding the rainforest on the Olympic peninsula. Wild, windswept beaches. Ancient, lush and moss-draped trees. Snow-capped mount Olympus surrounded by multiple glaciers. It's a spectacular experience showcasing many aspects of the majesty of nature.
J'ai grandit dans le nord ouest des Etats Unis et cette région de l'Etat de Washington aura toujours une place à part dans mon coeur. Et encore plus la côte pacifique avec sa foret tropicale de la péninsule Olympic. C'est sauvage, les plages sont balayées par le vent. La végétation est vraiment unique là bas. Les glaciers sont imposant tout autour de vous. Pour moi c'est un spectacle exceptionnel qui nous offre Dame Nature.
Clo prefers Milos, Greece.
Probably because that's were we got married, with family and friends; a magical place.

Matt recalls; Clo and I were with two friends in a bus crash during a cross-country trip in Malaysia. Three of us were injured and one of our friends died. It was terrible.
Clo et moi revenions de Malaisie en car pour rejoindre Singapore quand nous avons été victimes d'un accident de la route. 3 d'entre nous ont eut des cotes cassés et autres bobo. 1 de nos amis est décédé. C'était terrible.

Matt thinks of the grocery store street cleaner.
While sleeping in our Land Cruiser, I was woken up by Clo in the middle of the night. "Matt!" she whispered urgently. "Someone is outside in the parking lot!" she hissed at me. We were in the parking lot of a WinCo foods, which is open 24x7 but usually not much activity after 10pm or so. I sat up and looked out the window, quickly seeing the creepy stalker who was making noise (Clo was too worried to draw attention to herself by looking outside). It was a street cleaning truck, sweeping the parking lot. I tried not to laugh too much and went back to sleep after telling Clo she didn't need to worry about the cleaning truck attacking us.
Lors d'une nuit ou l'on dormait dans notre voiture, Clo m'a réveillé un peu en panique. Il y avait atour de nous des aller et retour d'un camion avec de grosses lumières qui faisait vraiment beaucoup de bruit... On était garé sur le parking d'un supermarché. J'ai regardé discrètement à l'extérieur, c'était seulement le camion nettoyeur du parking qui faisait son boulot en pleine nuit!! J'ai bien rit et en rassurant Clo je me suis rendormi le sourire aux lèvres.

The frustration in Nepal one morning, no one take my order for breakfast... the annoyance was real when I understood they were waiting for Matt to arrive. A woman ordering by herself... not yet there.
La frustration au Nepal un matin ou je me suis levée avant Matt, j'ai voulu commandé mon petit déjeuner mais j'ai vite compris que quelque chose clochait. Effectivement, tout le monde attendait que Matt arrive pour qu'il commande pour nous 2... L'égalité homme/femme n'est pas encore tout à fait intégrée dans la vie de tous les jours.

Matt will never forget the 4X4 Nepal journey with an old Indian couple.
After spending two weeks trekking in Nepal over Christmas and New Years (almost no tourists and incredible views), we were supposed to fly to Pokhara and spend a few days there relaxing. Flights were cancelled from the tiny airport we were using because of fog, so we had to take ground transportation instead. We spent about six hours in the back of a 4x4 with another, older couple who were in the same spot as us (then another four hours in a mini-bus). Besides the hundred-meter cliffs we were driving along, we drove for hours along a riverbed going about 20 kmph over thousands of rocks the size of my head. Then there was the time where the other lady in our 4x4 said urgently she needed to stop so she could vomit on the side of the road. It was quite the drive.
Apres avoir passé 2 semaines de trek au Népal entre Noel et le jour de l'an, (presque pas de touristes et des vues incroyables) nous devions prendre l'avion vers Pokhara et y passer 3 jours pour se reposer. Mais à cause du brouillard tous les vols du petit aéroport où nous étions ont été annulé. Nous avons donc dû prendre la route à la place. Nous avons passé 6 heures à bord d'un 4X4 avec un couple qui avait le même problème que nous. Sur la route en descendant, avec des ravins vertigineux sur le coté et une route tellement rocailleuse et étroite, la pauvre dame du couple à nos cotés s'est sentie mal... et a du sorti vite vite vite de la voiture!!!
Clo was scared of the 3 person plane in Alaska.
While in Alaska a few months ago we had the "chance" to fly a very tiny plane... Arghh... it was fun and not... Matt was so excited and happy.. I was ... nervous and scared!!! Never again, I did it once that's good enough!!!
En Alaska il y a quelques mois nous avons eut la chance de pouvoir voler sur un tout petit avion de 4 places. Argh... c'était sympa... haha Matt était aux anges, et moi en pleine tremblote. Je peux maintenant dire que je l'ai fait mais une fois: pas 2!!

How many pictures ...?
Matt only takes pictures with his phone, and often times they are pictures of Clo taking pictures. On a good day I'll take five or ten, but most days it's likely I'll take only one or two. All month I take about 100.
Je prends seulement des photo avec mon iPhone, la plupart du temps c'est Clotilde qui prend les photos. Dans mes bons jours j'en prend 5 ou 10, mais normalement j'en prend une ou deux par jour!! Sur un mois cela doit faire une centaine.
Clo thinks, humm... good question... between my Nikon, my Fuji and my iPhone... a lot!!! (Matt edit; many 100's in a day is completely normal for Clo)
